Cecilie Bahnsen is proud to introduce the sixth chapter of her collaboration with ASICS Sportstyle: the Gel-Kayano 20. First revealed on the runway during the Autumn Winter 2025 show in Paris, the design builds on the partnership’s distinctive language, where functionality meets femininity.
A continuation of Bahnsen’s original Mary Jane silhouette, the design is reimagined with sculpturaldetailing and a half-tongue construction. Informed by a visit to the ASICS archive in Kobe, Ceciliedrew inspiration from a 2005 marathon tabi shoe, incorporating its asymmetrical lacing and D-ringhardware. The result is a hybrid of past and future: a technical trainer imbued with couture-levelintricacy. “This is a new take on the original ASICS Mary Jane we designed, but something moresculptural, with even more contrast,” says Cecilie Bahnsen. “I loved the asymmetrical lacing fromthe marathon tabi, and could immediately imagine it with our signature flower detailing used aslace locks”.
A key element of the design is the floral ‘cage’, a 3D structure formed from Cecilie Bahnsen’ssignature flower motif. Layered with ASICS’ Stripes, reflective threads, and contrasting overlays, itcreates a delicate interplay of rigidity and softness, exposure and concealment. Negative space isthoughtfully used throughout: openings in the upper allow layers to peek through, adding lightnessand depth to the silhouette.
CECILIE BAHNSEN X ASICS GEL-KAYANO 20 is launching Friday, May 16th.
