Nike and French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus are continuing to evolve the iconic Moon Shoe, blending Nike’s unmatched running heritage with an elevated, modern aesthetic in three striking new colorways.
“Three years ago, when I first visited the Nike archives, I discovered an iconic piece, the Moon Shoe, timeless yet modern in its simplicity and execution,” says Simon. “I immediately saw the opportunity to write a new story and reinterpret it in our own way. Today, as we enter the second chapter of this collaboration, the Moon Shoe will be released in brown and white, alongside a pale pink edition. The choice of pale pink is rooted in the Jacquemus DNA as a sensual and naïve color that brings softness and intimacy to the silhouette, reshaping the icon through our own lens.”
The original Moon Shoe was born from Bowerman’s search for a lightweight traction solution that could give track athletes better grip without weighing them down. He was struck one morning by the grid pattern of his wife’s waffle iron, with its raised squares resembling the exact geometry he’d been chasing, and he poured liquid rubber into the small kitchen appliance to create a new kind of sneaker sole, resulting in an early prototype of what would become the Moon Shoe.
